Stance on AI
A Letter From Kristin Ael Vita
I believe that AI (especially generative AI) has no place in the creative industry (not when the basis of it's "learning" came from the stolen works of non-consenting human beings).
I will not use it anywhere near my works. I can promise that my books will be my words. My covers and art will always be human-created.
That being said:
1. I cannot promise that my works will be free of "AI-tells." I like an em-dash and the rule of three... I strive to use basic grammar; Grammer developed by humans that machines analyze and spit out in patterns trying to mimick humans.
2. I beg of you not to feed my works or the art around my works into AI for whatever reason.
3. I ask that you do not use AI to create outputs (character images, videos, etc.) off my works. Even with the best intentions, the AI output will be hollow to me, and I cannot respect a generated prompt over even the smallest attempt at human effort (and typing a prompt does not count as effort to me).
4. I do NOT want anyone to reach out to me about any collaborations using AI. I will reject those offers.
I write because I love to take my ideas and put them down on the page for others. I write because the stories in my head need an outlet, and I refuse to let a robot dehumanize me by summarizing others' work to make my idea into something.
The effort (tears, emotional rollar coasters, maybe a little blood and sweat) is part of the artistic journey of being a writer and author.
AI is an evil that we currently, disappointingly, have to live with, but note that you will find a safe space in my worlds.
To anyone trying to defend AI, telling me that I will be left behind... Okay? When are you leaving? I'm sure there will always be people in the world looking for books by a human (as AI slop is not art) and I am glad to remain in that group.
